In what will be great news for Manchester United fans, the Red Devils are now close to tying goalkeeper David De Gea down to a new contract despite growing interest from Real Madrid.

The current European champions are said to want to bring the former Atletico Madrid goalkeeper back to Spain and see the 24-year-old as the natural successor to veteran Iker Casillas.

However according to the Daily Telegraph, Manchester United is now in the driving seat after having offered the young Spaniard £200,000 per-week to remain at Old Trafford and become quite possibly the highest paid goalkeeper in the world along with Bayern Munich’s Manuel Neuer.

De Gea is yet to put pen to paper and is said to be willing to stay at United for one more season while allowing his contract to expire before committing to the club or perhaps deciding a move back to Spain is in his best interests.

United has now at least given him something to think about, and hope he will agree to their terms and remain at the club for years to come.
