Franz Beckenbauer has criticised Arjen Robben after Bayern Munich’s 1-0 defeat to Bundesliga rivals Borussia Dortmund at the Signal Iduna Park on Wednesday.

German legend criticises Robben

The Dutch International was awarded a penalty after being brought down in the area by Dortmund’s goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller in the 85th minute, and decided to take the penalty himself.

However his weak attempt was easily saved.

Beckenbauer feels that Robben should have never been allowed to take the penalty saying: “Robben would never have taken that penalty if I were the coach,” Beckenbauer said to Sky.

“There’s an unwritten law in football that says the one who got fouled shouldn’t take the penalty.

“Maybe this rule was changed, or it hasn’t reached Netherlands yet,”
Following the loss Bayern are second in the Bundesliga trailing Dortmund by six points with four matches left to play
