If reports in the Portuguese media today is anything to go by, Arsenal have had a bid rejected for FC Porto midfielder Danilo Pereira. Porto have reportedly made it clear that the Gunners will now have to activate the release clause of the high rated defensive midfielder if they really want to have a chance of signing him this summer. The release clause is reportedly put at £29 million.

Arsenal who are 13 points behind leaders Leicester City have bottled a golden chance of winning the Premier league this season. The Gunners started dropping points immediately Francis Coquelin got injured in November, this has led to speculations that Wenger could be bringing in another defensive midfielder.

Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Granit Xhaka has in the last few weeks been linked with Arsenal alongside Danilo who former Arsenal star Luis Boa Morte who is now a scout with the club has reportedly been scouting for couple of weeks now.

Arsenal surely will know Porto are a hard bargaining team and if they are bidding for Danilo, they must feel they have a good chance of signing the player or maybe the club is ready to activate his release clause and are only testing the waters.

Whatever the case may be, we probably will not know but one thing is certain, Arsenal needs to sign another defensive midfielder if they want to stand a chance of winning anything tanigble next season.

Injuries will always occur, it is a norm with Arsenal, and aside injuries, Coquelin’s tendency to get unnecessarily booked could ruin Arsenal’s season if someone who is able to compete with the French midfielder is not brought in.
