Fabregas is happy at Barcelona but you cannot rule out a return to Arsenal in the future

Cesc Fabregas has been talking down the rumour that he is thinking of leaving Barcelona by publicly stating that it is his ambition to retire at his boyhood club.

This comes just a few days after Real Madrid star Ronaldo was saying that he is sad, prompting Fabregas to say that he was not happy with parts of his role within the Catalan team.

Fabregas has been unable to secure a starting place in the team despite playing well in his first season. The midfielder faces still competition from Xavi, and now even Thiago, but has said any comments he has made were blown all out of proportion.

Cesc has said that he is working hard in the training ground to impress his Tito Vilanova and to make it difficult for them to leave him out of the starting line up.

‘This whole situation is exaggerated,’ he told Catalunya Radio. ‘I am happy. I am at the club I wanted to be at for many years. Currently I am very calm.

‘I’m doing my job and working as anyone else to make life difficult for my coach (to leave me out).

‘I want to retire at the Camp Nou.

‘When Guardiola retired it was not easy for Xavi,’ Fabregas added. ‘People did not understand his game and he was criticized. Now he is one of the best players in the history of Barca.

‘People take time to get used to you. With Iniesta it also went something like this.’ Fabregas said to the press.

Regardless of what Fabregas tells the press a player of his calibre is not going to take sitting on the bench for very long and while he still remains a fan of Arsenal it is always a possibility that he might return to the Emirates when the Gunners have ‘first denial’ clause in his contract.
