New Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has told talkSPORT that his aim is to win the Premier League with the club.
It has been 22 years since the side last lifted the league title with the likes of Roy Evans, Gerard Houllier, Rafael Benitez and Kenny Dalglish all failing to bring the trophy back to Anfield.
The club have also been out of the Premier League’s top four for the last three seasons and although initially the aim is to get back into that elite group, and the Champions League, Rodgers firmly has his sights set on winning the club their 19th title, but he admits that could take some time.

He told the Weekend Sports Breakfast: “I think [the aim is] just trying to keep making forward steps. The team finished eighth last season but I would say they were better than that – and that’s no disrespect to anyone.
“It’s just about taking steps forward. Liverpool as a club should be in that Champions League but it’s not just that. The aim for Liverpool can’t just be fourth. It has to be number one but that’s a process and that is going to take just a wee bit of time to do that.
“That’s the overall aim and obviously we’ll work towards that on a daily basis and a yearly basis.”
Meanwhile, Rodgers has paid tribute to his predecessor Kenny Dalglish’s work on and off the field in Liverpool.
“Kenny was an incredible man and still is,” said the 39-year-old. “He’s someone that is the heartbeat of the city and the club.
“He is a man of class. How he has nursed that club and city through some really tragic moments has been phenomenal
