Everton defender may be more money than Chelsea is willing to pay

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has dropped a hint suggesting that Everton may be asking more money for John Stones than Chelsea is willing to pay.

According to sources over at Sky Sports Chelsea is ready to improve the £20 million that they have already offered for the 21-year-old, while Blues boss Mourinho told reporters that the price of English player was too high due to the fact the Premiership stipulates that a certain percentage of each teams squad must be made up with home-grown players.

“That is the market. And you only pay it if you want. If you don’t want to pay it, don’t pay. It’s as simple as that. The market has no rules or limits from season to season.

“And not even the introduction of a Financial Fair Play rules is able to control the market. The market is where it is and it’s up to the clubs to decide yes or no. For ourselves there are certain rules.”
