Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero had to be stretchered off the pitch last night after injuring his hamstring during Argentina’s 2-0 World Cup qualifying loss to Ecuador.

The 27-year-old was replaced by Carlos Tevez in the 22nd minute and is now expected to miss Argentina’s match against Paraguay next week.

This could be devastating news for Manchester City, and especially so after seeing how he put five goals past Newcastle United last weekend at the Etihad.

His Argentina and City teammate Nicolas Otamendi, told: ‘He had been having a great time and was playing well,’ before confirming the striker was in tears in the dressing following the news of the setback.

A statement on the Manchester City website said: ‘The striker pulled up holding his left hamstring while chasing a long ball downfield.’
