The Argentinean central defender Demichelis is said to be offered a new one year deal at the Etihad.

The 33 year old veteran moved to Manchester City in September 2013 joining his former Malaga Boss Manuel Pellegrini, and penning a to two year contract for a reported a 4.2 million pounds.

The Manchester City defender was bought from Atletico Madrid, having been there less than two months and was even yet to make an appearance for the Spanish club, before the English club came to calling.

His introduction to the Premier League exposed the aged defender’s lack of pace but the former Atletico Madrid man has adapted well and is now set to be rewarded with a new 12 months deal.

Not with standing the purchase of the most expensive defender in the league in Eliaquim Mangala, Demichelis has managed to still remain relevant to his Chilean manager plans.

Demichelis spent seven and a half years winning 11 major titles with the German club Bayern Munich.

The Argentinean international has also accumulated 41 caps with his National team and is one of the most experienced players in the Premier League.

The former River plate has been coached by some of the world’s best managers like Felix Mageth, Ottmar Hitzfield, Louis Van Gaal and now Manuel Pellegrini.

The 33 year old will be kept at the Etihad for what he can offer as a backup in case of injuries and sometimes bad form. As Mangala’s howler against Hull City showed, the veteran might be needed to fill in from time to time.

Demichelis returned to the starting lineup for the Champions League tie versus Roma in place of the expensive Eliaquim Mangala who gave away 2 goals against Hull City.

Although Pellegrini states that the 35 million pound signing Mangala was not displaced because of his errors in the previous match, adding that he was comfortable with using Martin Demichelis as well:

“We bought Mangala for an important amount of money because we thought that we needed a center back, but I’m happy with the performances of Martin Demichelis as well.”

Demichelis played the Manchester City game and gave a good account of him as the Premier League club came away with a 1-1 draw.

The 33 year old who has played for some of the biggest clubs in football such as Malaga, Atletico and Bayern Munich will be hoping he gets to retire at the home of the Premier League champions as he seems to have a good relationship with the team’s boss Pellegrini.

Martin Demichelis is undoubtedly past his best and will only thrive at the noisy neighbors, if he isn’t used as a first choice center back.

The club seems to agree as they spent heavily on the best center back in Portugal last season in the person of Eliquaim Mangala.

The Argentinean can do a good job in both the defensive midfield and center back positions and will be seen as recognized depth in both positions, if an injury crisis hits the team.

He will prove to be an asset, if Manchester City plays him right.
