Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea could still become a Real Madrid player ahead of Tuesdays transfer deadline, despite the Spanish giants knowing they can sign the 24-year-old next summer for free after his contract at Old Trafford expires.

Currently the Spanish international has been exiled by Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal preferring to play new signing Sergio Romero until De Gea’s future is settled one way or another.

The feeling in the De Gea camp is that despite Los Blanco’s saying they will not pay Manchester United’s £35 million asking price that super-agent Jorge Mendes will pull a rabbit out of the hat and get a deal done that will be suitable to all parties.
