David De Gea to start for Manchester United in season opener against Spurs

So far Manchester united goal keeper David De Gea is yet to play during Manchester United’s pre-season tour of the United States after suffering from a minor back injury, but now looks set to feature during Saturday’s friendly against Barcelona in Santa Clara.

With time running out until the start of the season, Manchester United bosses are beginning to realize that a deal may not be possible with Real Madrid this summer for Spanish international de Gea, and that Los Blanco’s are happy to let him have one more season at Manchester United before signing him as a free-agent next summer when his contract at Old Trafford expires.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding the 24-year-old, it would appear that he will be in nets for the Red Devils season opener on August 8th when Manchester United welcome Tottenham Hotspurs to Old Trafford.

“When a player is injured it’s the same thing you have to wait in the season,” Van Gaal said.

“I give players time to recover and build up their fitness. It’s still possible he’ll be ready to start the season against Spurs because he shall play tomorrow.”
