Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea has said that while he remains happy at Old Trafford, qualifying for the Champions League is a must for the club.

With plenty of speculation linking him with a summer move to Real Madrid where he will take over from veteran Iker Casillas, the young Spaniard says he enjoys playing in the Premier League and is learning a lot from Victor Valdes who United signed in January.

‘English football has changed me a great deal,’ said De Gea. ‘I’ve developed a lot physically, greatly improved my concentration and generally improved all aspects of my game.

‘I was very young when I came here, but four years on, things are very good overall. This league really suits me, as you learn a lot here.

‘Victor and I work very well together. I’m very happy to be with him. I’m learning so much from him, not just in goalkeeping terms given his immense experience, but also as a person.’

Despite his contentment the 24-year-old says it is a must that the club is in the Champions League nest season.

‘We have to qualify for the Champions League no matter what,’ he added.

‘We already missed out last season, and a team like Manchester United cannot do that two years in a row.’
