David Beckham has been offered a Miami Stadium for his MLS team

City officials in Miami have offered David Beckham a temporary home for his proposed Major League Soccer franchise at the 20,000-seater ¬Florida International University Stadium while he and his backers British TV mogul Simon Fuller and Bolivian billionaire Marcelo Claure look for a permanent site.

So far Beckham has twice failed to find a new home for his team after falling foul of Port of Miami officials who claimed a new stadium would cause traffic jams and cause the loss of vital port jobs.

His next attempt to build in Biscayne Bay was thwarted by local environmentalists who said that it would endanger protected wildlife.

Miami-Dade County ¬Commissioner Juan Zapata says that the soccer star can still locate his team in Miami by using the University Stadium until a suitable site if found.

He said: “It would be a wonderful thing for our community and would establish a solid fan base while David and his team search for a permanent venue.”
