Fulham’s American striker Clint Dempsey looks set for a shock last-ditch move to Tottenham Hotspur.

Clint Dempsey: American arrives for Tottenham medical

Liverpool had been chasing the 29-year-old but a fee has been agreed with Spurs and he is at their training ground for a medical.

Liverpool made a bid for the forward – who rejected the chance to join Aston Villa – but Fulham rejected it.

“It looks extremely likely that there will be no ins at Anfield tonight,” said a Liverpool source.

Dempsey, who has scored 50 goals for Fulham in 184 league appearances, turned down Aston Villa on Friday morning.

The United States international cost Fulham a reported £1.5m when he joined them from American club New England Revolution in January 2007.

It is understood Liverpool’s pursuit of Chelsea forward Daniel Sturridge also now looks increasingly unlikely to come to fruition.
