Reports in there Sunday Telegraph say that Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho wants to bring back Benfica midfielder Nemanja Matic in order to strengthen his central midfield and that a £21 million bid is being prepared.
The 25-year-old Serbian left Stamford Bridge for Portugal in January of 2011 as part of the £25 million deal to bring Brazilian David Luiz to the club while Carlo Ancelotti was in charge.
Matic has performed well since leaving Chelsea winning the title of Portuguese player of the year last season, and is thought to have a buyout-clause of £37 million in his contract, which means Chelsea’s offer despite being £4.5 million more than Benfica paid for him might not be enough for his current club to let him leave.
