Prior to Chelsea’s pre-season tour, Blues boss Jose Mourinho announced that his summer business was all but over and that the only signings he would be making were to replace outgoing players.

And true to his word, so far at least that is what the Portuguese manager has done; with his latest target Augsburg left-back Baba Rahman set to come in to replace the Atletico Madrid bound Filipe Luis.

The 21-year-old Ghanaian has reportedly already agreed personal terms to join Chelsea, with a deal expected to be finalized before Chelsea play Arsenal in the Community Shield on Sunday August 2nd at Wembley.

The Augsburg defender is definitely a player for the future, and in no way will replace current starter Cesar Azpilicueta for some time, but what he will be able to do is provide cover in the left-back position, while also allowing the Spaniard to rest during cup competitions and periods of crowded fixtures.

This approach to youth makes much more sense for Chelsea, now that they know it is no use having unhappy veterans like Luis Filipe sitting on the bench, while a player like Rahman knows his time will come and that it is up to him to prove when he is ready to replace the 25-year-old Spanish international.

A good piece of business for Chelsea without a doubt as his value will only increase whether he is a starter or not.
