As patience runs out with out of form striker Diego Costa, Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has little option but to bring in a new striker in January and hope that the goals will follow.

Top of the Portuguese manager’s wish list is Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann, who the mattress makers value at around £25 million.

Despite Chelsea and Atletico having a good relationship stemming from previous business, trainer Diego Simeone would be very reluctant to let the 24-year-old French international leave halfway through the season, so it will take an enormous effort on Chelsea’s part, including perhaps throwing a player into the deal in order for Griezmann to move to Stamford Bridge.

If Chelsea should fail in their attempts to sign the La Liga star, the other possibility is West Brom striker Saido Berahino, with the England international almost certainly to be targeted by Tottenham following protracted negotiations over the summer which means the Blues would have a battle on their hands with Spurs for the 22-year-old.
