According to the website Calcio mercato Chelsea has along with Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United decided to enter the race for Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is looking to bring in a striker that can compensate for the departed Didier Drogba while at the same time put pressure on Diego Costa for the start each week.

Blues boss Mourinho knows the 27-year-old Argentinian well having worked with him at Real Madrid before his move to Napoli in 2013 where he went on to score 51 goals in 98 games for the Partenopei.

With Napoli manager Rafa Benitez due to replace Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid and the fact that Napoli failed to qualify for the Champions League after losing their final game of the season 4-2 to Lazio the future of many of their top players including Higuain has been cast into doubt.

And while Chelsea may have to fight off other Premiership clubs for his signature they feel as though a bid in the region of £30 million should be enough to bring the striker to Stamford Bridge.
