Chelsea has suffered a setback in their quest to sign Read Madrid’s Jese Rodriguez following reports that suggest the Spanish club is looking upon the signing Javier Hernandez from Manchester United as unnecessary.

According to the Daily Express Jose Mourinho will now miss out on the £15 million rates Jese after Real Madrid has decided not to make United a permanent offer for the Mexican international.

Melchor Ruiz, a respected Spanish journalist thinks that Real Madrid trainer Carlo Ancelotti would prefer to rely on his young star as a back-up for Karim Benzema, thus ending Chelsea’s hope of signing the 22-year-old.

Ruiz said: “They acknowledge they could have been wrong about him after what he has contributed.

“It has not been good for the player how the season has gone. They also believe it wasn’t necessary to sign him as he has not had many minutes.

“With regards to next season, there is no intention of bringing in a replacement.

“They think of Jese Rodriguez as first change for the attack, although at the moment he is far from at his best to play the role ‘Chicharito’ is occupying.”
