Chelsea striker to face three-match ban for violent conduct

 

Chelsea striker Diego Costa has been charged with violent conduct after stamping on Liverpool’s Emre Can Tuesday night during Chelsea and Liverpool’s Capital One Cup semi-final second-leg match at Stamford Bridge.

A statement from the FA confirms that all four match officials did not see the incident, but referee Michael Oliver told the FA that if he had witnessed the incident he would have sent the Chelsea player off.

If found guilty the Spanish forward faces a three-match ban that will see him miss this weekend’s six-pointer between Chelsea and second place Manchester City, along with subsequent matches against Aston Villa and Everton.

Costa now has till 6pm Thursday the either accept or dispute the charge against him with a decision to be made before the weekend as for the other incident involving Slovakian defender Martin Skrtel Costa will not be punished.
