Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini knows that his clubs trip to Chelsea could decide whether or not City retain their Premiership title following the 0-2 loss to Arsenal at the Etihad yesterday.

Chelsea host City on the 31st of January with City boss Manuel Pellegrini aware that his club must claw back the points if they are to stop the Blues running away with the title.

“The game we play at Stamford Bridge is a very important game. We must close the gap to two points,” he said.

“It’s very important to win the next game against Chelsea. I hope we are going to recover and play the way we have been playing so far.”

Arsenal deserved to win at the Etihad thanks to a Santi Cazorla penalty and a goal from Olivier Giroud.

City meanwhile could not find the back of the net, and missed midfielder Yaya Toure who is away for the Africa Cup of Nations.

Pellegrini’s side has not won a match without Toure since last April, but the Chilean manager did not put that down to the defeat.

“I think Yaya is a very important player, but I never have excuses,” he added.

“We play other games without Yaya and can win also. I never have excuses with one or two players why we don’t win.”
