Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho dispatched the Blues technical director Michael Emenalo to Malaga on Saturday to watch Atletico Madrid centre-back Miranda play in a 2-2 draw.
Chelsea is thought to be on the lookout for a new defender before the start of next season and have been heavily linked with the 30-year-old Brazilian in the past.
Miranda failed to join the Blues last summer, but with only one year left on his current contract and Diego Simone having a ready-made replacement in Jose Maria Gimenez the situation could be totally different.
Chelsea signed two of Miranda’s closest friends last summer Diego Costa and Filippe Luis so should have no problem convincing the former São Paulo player to move to London.
