Liverpool’s Brazilian midfielder Lucas Leiva has given the Reds a big boost after returning to full-training following a groin injury he suffered during the Merseyside derby with Everton on February 7th at Goodison Park in a match that finished 0-0.

The now 28-year-old has suffered a number of injuries over the years, but has proved himself to be a valuable player for Liverpool when fit, and will be a welcome return for the team as they aim for a top-four finish.

Despite being close to a recovery it might not come in time for Liverpool’s six-pointer against rivals Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday, but with Joe Allen now having established himself in Rodgers team Lucas will have to prove why he should start ahead of the young Welshman.

Meanwhile Liverpool is currently unbeaten in their last 13 games and will be looking to avenge the defeat they suffered to Manchester United in early December when they lost 3-0 at Old Trafford.
