Benzema to be let go if Benitez takes over Real Madrid

Karim Benzema could be the first casualty at Real Madrid should former Napoli manager Rafa Benitez take over at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The £35 million rated French international is already being linked with a possible move to a host of Premier League sides that include Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool.

According to Spanish sports daily Sport Benitez thinks that many of the clubs problems this season stem from the fact that former trainer Carlo Ancelotti never forced Benzema, Cristiano Ronaldo or Gareth Bale to defend while tracking back and will abandon the Italians 4-3-3 in favour of a more conservative 4-5-1.

This new formation will require that wingers like Ronaldo and Bale now do their share of defensive work.

This new system could also see CR7 played up front as a lone striker while Bale is utilised as a left-sided midfielder.

This also them makes Benzema surplus to requirements and could signal the 27-year-olds departure.
