Chelsea wants to sign Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic as a replacement for Petr Cech, but so far Stoke is refusing to budge on their £8 million valuation of the Bosnian international shot-stopper.

Stoke had thought that the 28-year-old would prefer to stay at the Britannia Stadium and player first team football, but despite only having a year left on his contract it looks as though Begovic would rather move and become second choice to Thibaut Courtois at Stamford Bridge.

Former Chelsea keeper Carlo Cudicini reckons there are plenty of reasons to join Chelsea saying: “If you are a goalkeeper that wants to prove himself, it’s a club where you can definitely be tested.

“The season is long; you have a lot of games to play. It happened last year with Petr Cech. He ended up playing around 15 games. So you have space and time to show the ability and your skill, so why not (go there)?”

Stoke meanwhile has a ready-made replacement in the form of England international Jack Butland.
