Barcelona is once more having to defend club record signing Luis Suarez after the former Liverpool striker once more put in a disappointing performance, this time against Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey.

So far the £75 million signing has only managed five goals in 16 games failing to reproduce the stunning form he showed while at Anfield.

The Uruguayan struggled during Barca’s 1-0 win and missed a golden opportunity to score after being set up by Ivan Rakitic.

Suarez still however has the full confidence of all at the club including Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu and coach Luis Enrique who are both convinced he will come good.

Bartomeu said: “We have very high expectations, he is a great player. He has the support and the affection of the people.”

Trainer Enrique added: “Perhaps he didn’t have the fortune to score today but he fixed himself to the centre-backs very well, he gave us solutions, he was a danger near the area.
The goals will come, there are no doubts with him.”
