Aston Villa should accept an offer from Liverpool and sell Benteke

Former Aston Villa player Alan McInally has told his former club that they should accept a serious bid from Liverpool for Christian Benteke, and use the money to help fund an overhaul of the current squad.

The Belgium international has been a huge hit at Villa Park, but now wants to move on to a bigger club this summer.

McInally said: “I don’t think he wants to stay and it’s really difficult to make him stay,” he told the Sports Bar.

“If someone is going to give you £30million for him, I think you let him go. You pat him on the back, wish him good luck.

“Hopefully Tim Sherwood will get the lions’ share of the fund from the transfer to try and improve the squad.
