Aston Villa has agreed to sell Christian Benteke to Manchester United

According to British daily tabloid the Sun Manchester United has agreed a deal with Aston villa to sign Christian Benteke, despite being linked with a host of Europe’s best strikers this past couple of weeks.

The Sun is claiming that United have agreed to meet Aston Villa’s £32.5 million release clause, and that the 24-year-old Belgium international will be plying his trade at Old Trafford next season.

Given Benteke’s price tag, which was much less than the Red Devils would have had to pay for Edinson Cavani, Gonzalo Higuain or Robert Lewandowski, Benteke could prove to be a bargain, plus he has already proven himself in the English Premiership unlike the other three.

Add to this how many foreign players have had a hard time adjusting to the pace and physicality of the league such as Angel Di Maria, and it makes sense to know that the person you are signing can hit the ground running.

The 63-year-old Dutchman also has a soft spot for wingers as we can see by his first summer signing, Memphis Depay, and with the big Belgium in the middle it would certainly provide a nice target to aim for.

If this proves to be correct it will be a blow for Liverpool, who wanted to sign Benteke, but just did not want to meet Villa’s asking price.
