After losing his temper against Wigan, Robin van Persie decideded to cool off with a visit to the Barcelona team hotel on Monday night.

The Arsenal striker – who refused to shake Gary Caldwell’s hand at the end of their shock 2-1 home defeat to lowly Wigan – was pictured leaving the Marriott hotel on Park Lane.

It is not yet known why Van Persie took the trip to the base of the Spanish giants, who are in London ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League semi-final first leg with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

The Dutchman was spotted chatting with fellow countryman Ibrahim Afellay, who is part of the Barca party in the capital.

Van Persie may have also used the trip to catch up with his old Gunners pal Cesc Fabregas, who left the Emirates to rejoin his boyhood club last summer.

However, Arsenal fans will fear that his friendliness with the Barcelona team will only increase his chances of moving to the Nou Camp at the end of the season.

Van Persie has just one year remaining on his deal and has yet to commit his future to the Barclays Premier League side as they attempt to persuade him not to follow big names such as Fabregas and Samir Nasri out of the club.

Although Barcelona have a string of top-quality attackers, they would be interested in Van Persie if he was up for grabs.

Manchester City and Real Madrid are also keen to land him this summer – and both clubs would happily double his wages to close to £200,000 per week.

In a bid to convince Van Persie to stay, boss Arsene Wenger has already secured an £11m deal for Germany striker Lukas Podolski.
