Wenger, Arsenal,

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was in a good mood following his clubs 1-0 derby win over north London rivals Tottenham, and hinted at a big transfer surprise arriving at the Emirates.

With the Frenchman yet to spend ahead of tonight’s 11pm deadline he is expecting to spend a busy final day trying to wrap up a signing or two for the club, even going so far as to say that he had a surprise in store for the fans.

Wenger when speaking to Sky Sports about the derby win said: “I enjoyed it, absolutely – the attitude they have shown.

“It was a very intense game where sometimes technically, in the second half especially, we dropped our level. But overall, to sum it up, their goalkeeper was their best player and we had plenty of chances.

“I concede as well that we did hang on in the end because we just wanted to keep the score. Overall, there were less goals than usual but it was still a very interesting derby.”

When asked about transfers Wenger said with a smile: “You will see what we will announce. If we sign someone I promise that we will be very quick to announce it, but maybe we have a good surprise for you.

“I believe, ideally, you want strength in the squad because you get long-term injuries and you always want more quality. But we are working very hard and let’s give us time, until tomorrow at 11 o’clock.”
