Arsenal to raid Manchester United for £12m Defender

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is ready to raid Manchester United this summer for England international centre-back Chris Smalling.

The news that Manchester United is about to offer the 25-year-old a new contract at Old Trafford has appeared to spark the interest of the Gunners boss who is now reportedly willing to offer Manchester United £12 million at the end of the season for Smalling to move to the Emirates.

The Red Devil player’s current deal is up in 2016 and has United worried that if he does not sign a new contract with them this year he may walk away for nothing next summer.

Quoting a story in the Daily Mirror the Daily Star says Arsenal has made enquiries as to the availability of not just Smalling but also teammate Phil Jones, but it is assumed that the former Fulham player Smalling is Wenger’s main target.

The news out of Old Trafford is that Louis van Gaal has been sounding out Smalling as to his commitment at Old Trafford in order to give the club time should they decide to cash in on him this summer if he is looking to leave.
