Arsenal to play the WAITING GAME for £35m Striker

Forget all the strikers that have been linked with a summer move to the Emirates except for one, and that man is Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger reportedly called the French international over the weekend to discuss the possibility of him coming to play in London, and while Benzema said he was happy for now in the Spanish capital, at least Wenger has planted the idea in his head that he is wanted at the Emirates.

Arsenal think that they can snatch Benzema as the window is about to shut just as they did with Mesut Ozil a couple of seasons ago.

The speculation in the Spanish press is that new trainer Rafa Benitez is going to use Cristiano Ronaldo in a more central role in order to give Gareth Bale the space out on the wings he once enjoyed while playing for Tottenham.

This in theory leaves no place in the team for a striker like Benzema, which means he may have to be satisfied with the role of a benchwarmer.

With the seed now firmly planted in the 27-year-olds head Wenger will now sit back and see what happens, and has told close advisors that if he is unable to sign Benzema he will stick with Olivier Giroud as the clubs main striker while also being able to use Walcott and Sanchez as all out strikers if the need arises.
