Despite all the talk last week that suggested Liverpool defender Daniel Agger was on his way to Barcelona for £12 million the Daily Star is claiming that reports coming out of Denmark suggest that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is preparing to make an audacious bid for the Liverpool outcast.

This of course is also bad news for his former club Brondby who were hoping to be able to get the Danish international to sign for them.

Club chairman Jan Bech Andersen said earlier in the month that Brondby were prepared to do all they could to re-sign Agger saying: “We will work really, really hard to secure Daniel but as he has also said, when he was here with Liverpool, the timing has to be right,” he said.

Currently Agger is facing an uncertain future on Merseyside after Liverpool signed Croatian international Dejan Lovren from Southampton for £20 million.

Last season Adder made it clear that he was not happy being on the bench and unless things changes he would be looking at other options saying: “It is no secret that I had problems last season and I am considering things.”

“How things turned out last season is not sustainable for me. I am here now and it is up to me to show the coach that I should play.”

Wenger is looking at Agger as a replacement for Thomas Vermaelen, and is said to be prepared to battle both Brondby and Barcelona if necessary.
