English Premier League club Stoke City are bracing themselves for what is expected to be a bidding war for their Bosnian international goalkeeper Asmir Begovic.

The 27-year-old keeper is seen by Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger as the perfect man to sign in order to keep current number one Wojciech Szczęsny fighting for his starting place in the team.

Wenger however is not alone in his desire to sign a world-class keeper with Italian trainer Carlo Ancelotti eager to find a replacement for Iker Casillas at Real Madrid coupled with the fact he might be losing current number one keeper Diego Lopez to either Napoli or AC Milan.

The 33-year-old Casillas had a disastrous time for Spain during the World Cup letting in seven goals before being dropped for the last match against Australia prompting the Sunday Star to speculate that Ancelotti will make a move for the 6ft 6in Stoke keeper who the Potters signed just four-years earlier from Portsmouth for just over £3 million.

Stoke City for their part will not be inviting offers for their keeper but manager mark Hughes knows they are coming saying: “I’m not surprised if top teams are looking at him because he’s an outstanding keeper.”
