Arsenal is now reportedly in pole position to land £8 million Juventus striker Fernando Llorente according to Italian football website Tuttosport, who claim that the Gunners are very close to signing the 30-year-old former Athletic Bilbao front-man.

Meanwhile the Spanish international has been linked all summer with a move to Manchester United, but it would appear as if they may have changed tack looking to sign a bigger named marquee signing.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has always had Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema down as his first choice to bring to the Emirates this summer, but fearing the 27-year-old Frenchman would rather stay in the Spanish capital than move to London, he wants to ensure he has another quality striker in place before only having Olivier Giroud to depend upon for the season ahead.

A source in Turin when asked about Llorente said: “It’s Arsenal who’ve been in contact — not United.

“They have made an inquiry but there is no bid yet.

“But it is clear they are interested and it is also clear that Juventus are ready to listen.”
