Arsenal and Liverpool are both ready to get their cheque books out and make a move for Real Madrid midfielder Asier Illarramendi according to Spanish sources report that the La Liga giants are open to listening to offers for the 25-year-old.

The defensive midfielder arrived at the Santiago Bernabeu in 2013 from Real Sociedad for £23 million, but has since failed to hold down a starting spot in trainer Carlo Ancelotti’s star studded team.

The Premiership duo is not alone in their pursuit with David Moyes Real Sociedad and Athletic Bilbao also said to be in the hunt.

Ideally he would be better suited to Liverpool who will be losing Steven Gerrard this summer and quite possibly Lucas Leiva for whom Illarrmendi would be a direct replacement.
