Arsenal target Jose Rodriguez is set to sign a new contract at Real Madrid that will include a £9.6m release clause.

The 17-year-old has played 156 minutes for the Madrid first-team and is tipped to have a fine future in the game by Jose Mourinho.

Rodriguez reportedly turned down a five-year contract offer from Arsenal in October 2011 but is thought to still figure heavily on Arsene Wenger’s radar.

But Madrid are going to offer Rodriguez a long-term deal with a substantial release clause once he turns 18 on December 16.

And it is thought that the release clause will be increased in the future as Real attempt to avoid losing talented young players, as was the case with Chelsea midfielder Juan Mata and Valencia striker Roberto Soldado.

Mata left Real for Valencia in 2007 and Soldado for Getafe a year later, and the club are keen to tie down their finest young players to avoid similar situations.
