Liverpool of course is playing down all speculation that talks between the club and Raheem Sterling have broken down over a new contract, with Anfield worried that negotiations could turn into a similar type of saga that played out between Arsenal and Theo Walcott the last time the Gunners forward was offered a new deal.

The Mail is reporting that the 20-year-old Sterling is ready to turn down any offer up to £180,000 per-week in an attempt to force Liverpool’s hand over the summer.

With plenty of interest in the youngster both here and abroad the fact that Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has been using him as a wing-back of late could also come into the equation of what his future role will be on Merseyside.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger realizes that Sterling could be too good a player to let slip by without at least trying to sound him out, and according to the Mirror will launch a similar type of bid as the one he did for Luis Suarez once the summer transfer window opens.
