Arsene Wenger and Mesut Ozil have finally reached an agreement over the player’s contract extension, according to reports.

It was previously reported that the player is stalling on his decision to extend his contract with the club. With his current contract set to run out in the summer of 2018, the Gunners are eager to see their talisman append his signature to a new long-term deal. However, reports as regards the paper work have been back and forth.

Ozil, 27, is reported to be stalling to see whether the club would qualify for the UEFA Champions league – a competition they have played in for the 17 consecutive seasons now. However, fresh report now suggests that both the contract talks are on course to be concluded in coming weeks.

Wenger said last year that players’ contract extension would have to wait until the end of the season, and it seems things will remain that way but, we are made to understand that talks are ongoing, on a low-key, for three of their key players – Ozil, Alexis Sanchez and Jack Wilshere.

Ozil is reportedly set to take home a whooping £180,000 a week package if all goes to plan. This will set him up as the club’s highest paid player.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are reportedly eyeing Borussia Dortmund star Henrikh Mkhitaryan as a likely replacement should the German international refuse to agree a new deal.
