According to Portuguese newspaper O Jogo Arsenal are the front runners to sign Spanish striker Rodrigo with Zenit St. Petersburg and La Liga side Valencia also interested.

In order for Valencia to sign the 22-year-old they would need an infusion of cash from the man who is in the process of taking over the club Singapore billionaire Peter Lim, and with the window winding down it appears they may run out of time.

Zenit has supposedly already put a bid close to the 30€ million that Benfica are asking on the table, but the former Real Madrid youngster is said not to want to move to Russia which means a move would be to either Valencia or Arsenal.

Benfica is at the moment suffering financial problems and sold midfielder Nemanja Matic for £21 million half the amount of his £43 million buyout clause and even though he is under contract with the Portuguese side till 2019 they would be willing to let him go if a reasonable offer was forth coming.

The Signing of Rodrigo by Arsenal would take the pressure off Giroud and could go a long way in helping them to win their first title since 2003.

Have a look at Rodrigo’s goal against Porto the other day and tell me that you would not like to have him in your team.
