The boss of French Ligue 1 side Saint-Etienne Christophe Galtier has said that they would be willing to listen to a “surprising” offer for central defender Loic Perrin according to the Daily Star.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is keen to add to his defensive options this month having only limited cover for Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny.

Perrin has been mentioned repeatedly over the past couple of weeks as a potential target and now his manager is saying that a move to the Emirates is a possibility.

“Loic (Perrin) is a special case that I will look after personally. I’m not saying the door is open but if a surprising offer is made we would have to listen to Loic and his wishes,” Galtier said.

“He is a player who has spent all of his career at the club. Arsenal are a big club in a big league.”

The Gunners boss spoke about the transfer market and said the club would be active.

He said: “There is a need there [to buy], but the right opportunity has to come up.

“To buy [just for the sake] to buy is not what we want to do, but if the right opportunity comes up, we will do it.

“If you look at the number of games some players played and the injuries we have with [Jack] Wilshere, [Aaron] Ramsey and [Mikel] Arteta, we’re a bit short at the moment in midfield.”

As a side note Saint-Etienne manager Christophe Galtier is one of the names being mentioned as a possible replacement for Alan Pardew at Newcastle United.
