Arsenal is ready to make a move for Serbian defender Nemanja Pejcinovic after the 26-year-olds contract has expired with French Ligue 1 side Nice according to the Daily Express.

Pejcinovic is known as being Ligue 1’s most reliable centre-backs since moving to the Allianz Riviera in 2010, but now wants to leave in search of Champions League football.

Arsenal is not the only team keeping tabs on the Serb with Monaco also said to be interested.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is however keen to snap up the free agent who he sees as excellent cover for Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny.

This along with the future of Thomas Vermaelen still in doubt it would make sense for Wenger to take a chance on the 6ft 1in defender who do not forget is also a free agent meaning Arsenal need to only convince him to come to the Emirates, and as for Pejcinovic himself he thinks that it is time for a challenge saying: “My current ambitions are currently higher than what Nice can offer me today. I know Nice can improve but right now I have to think about myself and my family.

“I have always wanted to play in the Champions League or at least in some other European competition. It is a dream I have had since I was little.

“I now have the opportunity to do so.”
