Goal.com is reporting that Arsenal is in advanced talks to sign Real Madrid midfielder Mesmut Özil for a figure believed to be around £40 million.
Upper-level talks have been going on for a few days now regarding the German international with Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger keen to make a few big signings before the transfer window closes tomorrow night.
Özil has privately indicated that he would be open to a move to the Emirates, despite his public stance where he says he is happy at Madrid, and is willing to fight for his place.
Every top international knows that in a World Cup year playing regular first team football is a vital part of insuring you place in the national team, and Arsenal will if for no other reason appeal to Özil for that.
Wenger is now in a race against time to get as many as three deals done with Özil being a major coup should he be able to pull it off.
