According to reports Arsenal has been given the all clear to sign Barcelona midfielder Sergi Samper after the 20-year-old expressed his desire to go in search of first-team football knowing that Sergio Busquets, Javier Mascherano and Sergi Roberto are all favoured ahead of him by trainer Luis Enrique in the senior side.
Over that past few days Arsenal have been linked with a move for the defensive enforcer, who with Arsenal’s squad looking a little short when it comes to defensive midfielders, the young Spaniard could be an ideal, and also cheap solution to work as cover for the ageing Mikel Arteta, while at the same time providing competition for Francis Coquelin.
The Spanish media keep suggesting that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is ready to trigger the Spaniard’s £8.4 million release clause in order to bring the U-21 international to the Emirates, and while Barcelona does not want to see him leave they would be powerless to stop him if the release clause was met.
