Arsenal more than ever has the opportunity to sign Radamel Falcao as reports now have it that major competitor in the battle for the player’s signature, Real Madrid pulled out of the race.

The 28-year-old Colombian is no doubt a world class player whose club intends to make some cash from a loan move to any willing club across Europe.

The UEFA Champions League winners and Spanish giants, Real Madrid were believed to be favourites to secure a loan deal for the Monaco attacker because of their financial strength, but now, Spanish Radio station Cadena COPE has dropped a hint that the Real Madrid officials are not interested in signing Falcao, which means the ball is now in Arsenal’s court to arrange a loan deal for the former Atletico Madrid man.

The exigency of a new striker engulfed Arsenal as a result of the injury suffered by Olivier Giroud in the 2-2 draw against Everton at Goodison Park and though the manger, Arsene Wenger, when quizzed about a move for the 29-year-old Colombian insisted the player was out of Arsenal’s price range, many media houses and occurrences point in the direction of an interest in signing the player by Arsenal.

According to reports which ran in the European media two days ago, Arsenal were due to meet the agent of the talismanic striker, Radamel Falcao, Jorge Mendes and Monaco chiefs, to discuss the intricacies of a deal that would bring the 28-year-old Colombian forward to the North London side.

Before then, Falcao had reportedly sent a come-get-me signal to North London club Arsenal.

The player was said to have told Arsenal he is willing to make a move from Monaco to Arsenal on loan till the end of the season.

However, the initial interest from Real Madrid, only made Arsenal second favourites to land the player, but with the report of a pulling out from the Spanish heavyweights, Arsenal have gotten all the license to pursue the player without any hitch.

The only source of worry to the Arsenal fans now is, whether Arsene Wenger who categorically said the player’s loan transfer fees was way out of Arsenal’s price range and has continually expressed the depth of talent Arsenal has going forward, would step-up and make this deal for Falcao happen.

The presence of Lukas Podolski, Alexis Sanchez, Theo Walcott and Joel Campbell in the Arsenal squad has somewhat bulked Wenger up with a sense of confidence and belief, as he constantly bells it to whoever cares to listen that he not necessarily has to buy another attacker after Giroud got injured.

To a very large extent, his statement and belief in these players are good and positive signs from a progressive coach, but the ability to play as a top 9 with the relatively small frames and build of these attackers may pose a problem.

Stature, frame or build, is the reason Wenger doesn’t deploy Lukas Podolski, who had a better credential than Olivier Giroud coming to Arsenal, in the top striker position.

It is the same reason why the manager has not granted Theo Walcott’s wish of playing upfront, despite Walcott’s promise of a better turnover of goals.

However, Podolski and Walcott have done very well in Arsenal so far, operating from the wings. Barring no injuries, they could even score more goals individually than Olivier Giroud, given as much time as the Frenchman.

Sanchez was said to have played the top 9 for Chile, Barcelona and Udinese but this is English Premier League where attackers adapt to the physicality and build of defenders like Sylvain Distin, Vincent Kompany, John Terry and Gary Cahill, just to mention a few.

Except Wenger would do some switching of roles or positions and maybe a player like Alexis Sanchez and/or Lukas Podolski step-up and convince the fans before the transfer window slams shut, it really does make s whole lot of sense for Arsenal to get Falcao on a season long loan deal to present itself as a determined side, ready to go all out and challenge for titles this season.
