Arsenal now hope to have signed midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin from Southampton for £27 million before the transfer window closes on Monday evening according to an exclusive story published in the football website caughtoffside.

Southampton have already seen a host of their top players leave this summer to join other clubs and were remaining firm that French international Schneiderlin would not be one of them.

The 24-year-old had however come to an agreement with the club that should someone come in with an offer the Saints found to be acceptable that he would be able to leave.

Schneiderlin has been with Southampton for six years helping take the club into the Premiership, but he felt the time was now right for him to be playing Champions League football which he will be able to do with Arsenal after the Gunners narrowly beat Turkish club Bestikas during the week.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been looking to bolster his midfield options and sees the young Frenchman as a long term replacement for the defensively minded Mikel Arteta.

Wenger is eager to push the deal through as soon as possible and will sort out personal terms with Schneiderlin once Southampton accepts his offer.
