Despite the fact that Chelsea won’t be playing in the Champions League next season, the Blues are still planning to make major transfer deals in the summer transfer window. According to daily mirror, Chelsea believe they can convince Antoine Griezmann to join the club this summer and will be offering the Frenchman a big contract to convince him to move to Stamford bridge this summer.

Griezmann has scored a total of 29 goals for Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid this term and with Diego Costa not doing so far since he joined, Chelsea could do with someone like Griezmann.

The reports claim Chelsea owner Abramovich will be personally involved in the negotiation to sign the versatile attacker this summer. The lack of Champions League football Chelsea according to the report hope they can make up for by offering the Frenchman a big contract.

With Griezmann having said he is happy in La liga, it remains to be seen if the lure of money will convince him to move to Chelsea but he is certainly someone Chelsea could do with. Although he is more at home in midfield, he has under Simeone developed to be one of the best strikers in world football at the moment.

However, for Chelsea to stand any chance at all of signing Griezmann, they will have to be prepared to break their own transfer record. The Blues will be expected to pay at least £60 million if they are to sign him.
