After the news of Didier Drogba returning that sent most of us into ecstasy following that night in Munich, we have recently heard Frank Lampard would also be returning to the league, as a blue, but not in shade of blue we want.

Frank Lampard said goodbye to us after a long 12 years with the club.

The English midfielder became our highest all time goal scorer with 211 goals and was released last season after the club failed to renew his contract.

We thought that was the last we had seen of the ‘Super’ number 8 especially after his move to MLS expansion team, New York City FC, but it seems his Premier League chapter isn’t quite finished yet as he was loaned to title rivals, ManCity.

You can imagine the shock among Chelsea fans on hearing of the deal, the current speculation is that the owners of NYC FC are also the owners of ManCity and Frank had no choice, but even if that’s not the case we can have an understanding of his switch as he has pleaded with the coach, Manuel Pellegrini, not to be in the side whenever the sky blue outfit clash with us, Chelsea.

Lampard would be at City for just six months so he stays fit ahead of the MLS new season with NYC FC along with the likes of David Villa, who also just signed for the New York outfit.

Lampard has a couple of records in the Premier League and would definitely be extending such records; sadly it would be in another jersey.

Lampard has a league career total of 577 appearances in the league, only Ryan Giggs higher with an overwhelming 632. Lampard is also currently the fifth leading all-time scorer in the league, 2 behind Wayne Rooney who is still very active in his playing career but also 4 goals behind Arsenal legend, Thierry Henry who is elsewhere, Frank could definitely become the fourth highest scorer over the next six months.

Having noted that it’s understandablewhy he returned to league, however, saddening it’s not in our jersey.

His number 8 is still blank at the club and most of us are still yet to get over the fact he is no longer a Chelsea player. Frank Lampard was the runner up in the 2005 FIFA World Player of the year award after Ronaldinho, the first player of the club to achieve that.

He also still plays for the English national team despite being well in his twilight years at the age of 36.

Lampard has scored 29 times for the national side as he is also on the national all-time top scorers rank with 29 goals.

We know where his loyalty lays, Frank Lampard, he plays where he wants, Chelsea Legend.
