According to Guardian journalist Jamie Jackson it is a possibility that Manchester United’s British record £50.7 million signing Angel Di Maria could leave Old Trafford this summer after just one disappointing season in the Premiership.

The 27-year-old winger has vowed to fight for his place at the club, but should a team such as Paris Saint-Germain offer United what they paid to Real Madrid, Jackson feels there is a strong possibility that the Red Devils would sell.

“It’s 50/50 as to whether he stays – it could go either way,” he told the Transfer Tavern.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if he left – if United can get close to the £59.7m they paid, they would seriously consider it.

“My sense is that Van Gaal has lost a bit of patience with Di Maria. He cost a lot of money – that’s not his fault – but he’s an elite player and he has to deliver.

“If he does stay he might struggle to get into the team, I don’t think he’s an instant starter in United’s strongest 11.

“Once he got sent off in that FA Cup game [against Arsenal] he couldn’t get back in the team.

“Personally, as a football fan I’d like to see him given a good go in his best position, he was messed around a little by van Gaal, but then a lot of the players were and had to fight for recognition – Ashley Young the prime example.”
