JOSE BOSINGWA revealed Andre Villas-Boas predicted Chelsea would be crowned kings of Europe – just days before he was sacked.

ANDRE VILLAS-BOAS FORETOLD TRIUMPH

Villas-Boas departed on March 4, following Chelsea’s 3-1 quarter-final first-leg loss at Napoli two weeks earlier. Interim boss Roberto Di Matteo then steered the team all the way to an unlikely triumph, culminating in Saturday’s final at Bayern Munich.

Defender Bosingwa said of Villas-Boas: “He told us we would be European champions.”

Midfielder Raul Meireles, banned against Bayern, added: “It was a funny thing. Following the Napoli defeat, he said we’d be European champions. We never stopped believing and ended up winning the FA Cup and Champions League.”

Bosingwa says the team disproved ‘age’ critics, adding: “They said the team was old, but we overcame all this. And it ended up being a very positive season.”
