The Russian billionaire has compiled a shortlist of key players and will tell the new manager to take his pick. He has pinpointed four key areas which he feels needs strengthening the most, they are a centre forward, two full backs and an attacking midfielder.

Analysis Of Roman’s “Alleged” £247 m Shopping List

This list includes Athletico Madrid striker Falcao, Napoli pair Cavani and Lavezzi, Ajax’s Vertonghen, Tottenham’s Modric, Real Marid’s Higuain, Mario Gotze, Azpilicueta, Hazard and Porto duo Hulk and Pereira.

Lets take a look at the likelihood of any of these deals being completed shall we.

Lets start at the back with Cesar Azpilicueta, the 22-year-old right back who currently plays for Marseille in France is a player highly rated around Europe. He is on the fringes of the Spanish national team and could apparently cost Chelsea upto £25m.

This deal seems rather unecessary considering Chelsea already have Ivanovic who is more versatile and defensively sound. Azpilicueta would be a good addition and certainly has age on his side but really £25m for a right back seems like wasted money.

Alvaro Pereira is a wing back who currently plays for FC Porto. The 26-year-old left back would be a good addition as a replacement for Ashley Cole who isn’t getting any younger and who has endured a poor season by his standards.

This deal seems quite likely as Chelsea tried to sign the full back last summer but couldn’t get any deal completed on time. He looks set to cost Chelsea around £17m.

Jan Vertonghen is a very sought after centre back from Ajax and has attracted interest from numerous Premier League clubs including Arsenal, Spurs and Newcastle. This deal seems based around the outcome of any deal involving David Luiz to Barcelona, so until any light is shed on this rumour its hard to judge the likelihood of this deal.

Onto midfield and Tottenham’s Luka Modric is an obvious target for Chelsea this summer. They tried furiously to sign him last summer but fell short of Tottenham’s valuation who stood firm and insisted he wasn’t for sale. However, this deal would hinge on whether Chelsea qualify for the Champions League ahead of Spurs, if not then I don’t see any deal happening here.

Mario Gotze is one of the worlds most highly rated rising stars, his performances for German champions Dortmund have attracted much interest from all over Europe. A deal involving Chelsea or any other potential suitor seems unlikely has he recently signed a new 5 year deal with the Bundesliga champions. This could however of been a plot by Dortmund to up his transfer value which apparently settles at around £40m.

Eden Hazard is yet another rising star of world football and is certain to leave Lille this summer. His £25m valuation seems fair considering his age and obvious talent. Chelsea will face a battle to land him from other glamour clubs around the world but maybe the attraction of West London and the Premier League may tempt him.

Hulk looks almost certain to join Chelsea as it was reported that Porto would be willing to settle for £35m for the Brazilian despite his £85m release clause. Talks are ongoing between Chelsea and Porto but all parties seem to want a deal to be done.

Lavezzi impressed all spectators and pundits with his performances in this years Champions League but fell way short of expectations during the 2nd leg of Napoli’s tie with Chelsea. At 26 the winger may be worth any deal but considering his £30m valuation any deal may need to be looked into further.

His team-mate Edison Cavani seems certain to move to the Premier League at some point. He seems to possess all the physical attributes to cope with English football and certainly possesses the finishing ability to score goals at any level. Many clubs are interested and his £35m valuation will see many of Europe’s big guns fighting over his signature. If Chelsea can qualify for the Champions League they may well be one of the front runners but if not then I see no deal happening here.

Finally Gonzalo Higuain has been in tremendous form for Real Madrid this season but strangely seems set to leave the Bernabeu this summer. This deal seems quite likely as the other interested parties – PSG and Man City – either don’t possess the allure of Chelsea or can’t offer him the first team football Chelsea can.
